In order to provide income support to all eligible farm families that own land, the Government has launched PM-KISAN. The scheme aims to complement the financial needs of farmers in acquiring various inputs to guarantee adequate crop health and adequate yields, in proportion to the expected agricultural income.
All farmer families eligible for land tenure (subject to prevailing exclusion criteria) must take advantage of the benefits of this scheme, according to the recent cabinet decision made in May 2019. The revised scheme is expected to cover around Rs 2 million more, increasing PM-KISAN coverage to around 14.5 million crore beneficiaries, at an estimated cost of Rs. Rs 87,217.50 million for the year 2019-20.

Previously, under the scheme, a financial benefit has been provided to all small and marginal farmer families with arable land with a total cultivation capacity of up to 2 hectares with a benefit of Rs.6000 per year per family payable in three equal installments , Every four months.
States will prepare a database of eligible beneficiary farmer landowner families in villages capturing Name, Age, Gender, Category (SC / ST), Aadhaar Number (in case Number of Aadhaar, then the Aadhaar Registration Number along with any other documents prescribed for identification purposes, such as a driver's license, voter identification card, NREGA job card or any other identification document issued by central / state governments / UT or its authorities, etc.), the bank account number and the mobile phone number of the beneficiaries.

In the case of beneficiaries in the States of Assam, Meghalaya, J&K where the Aadhaar number has not been issued to the majority of citizens, the Aadhaar number will be collected for those beneficiaries where available and for other prescribed alternative documents are may collect for identity verification purposes.
On February 24, 2019, Narendra Modi launched the scheme in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, transferring the first installment of 2,000 each to more than one farmer crore.
Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi is an initiative of the Government of India in which all farmers will earn up to Rs 6,000 (US $ 84) per year to support minimum income. The initiative was announced by Piyush Goyal during the 2019 Provisional Union of India Budget on February 1, 2019.
The scheme will cost Rs75,000 crore (US $ 11 billion) per year and will take effect from December 2018. Rs 6,000 per year will be paid to each eligible farmer in three installments and deposited directly into their bank accounts.
The scheme was first conceived and implemented by the Telangana government as the Rythu Bandhu scheme, where a certain amount is delivered directly to eligible farmers. The scheme has received praise from various organizations for its successful implementation, including the World Bank.
Many economists suggest that this type of investment support is better than farm loan exemptions. With the positive result of this scheme, the Government of India wanted to implement it as a national project and was announced by Piyush Goyal during the 2019 Provisional Union of India Budget on February 1, 2019.
